Govt. decides to compensate farmers; appointments ambassadors

Kathmandu / Oct. 28: The government has decided to provide relief to the farmers who incurred losses due to damage in the paddy crop following inundation and floods caused by the recent unseasonal rainfalls.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers today decided to provide relief up to 65 per cent of the loss to the farmers owning less than 10 kattha of land, informed government spokesperson Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Minister for Communications and Information Technology.

According to government spokesperson Karki, the farmers having up to 3 Bighas of land will get 30 per cent of loss while those having more than 3 Bighas will get 20 per cent of loss as a relief.

Govt recommends ambassadors to India, UK and the USA

The government has recommended ambassadors to India, the United Kingdom and the USA.

According to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s press aide Gobinda Pariyar, Dr Shanker Sharma has been recommended as ambassador of Nepal to India, Dr Sridhar Khatri as ambassador of Nepal to the USA and Gyan Chandra Acharya as Nepal’s ambassador to the United Kingdom.

While Dr Sharma previously served as Nepal’s ambassador to the USA, Khatri is a renowned expert of international relations. Acharya served as Under Secretary General of the United Nations after retiring from Foreign Service of the Government of Nepal.

The government had recently recalled all the ambassadors sent by the erstwhile KP Oli-led government. The appointment of new ambasasdors will begin after receiving agreement from their host country.
