National Strategy for promotion of tea in offing

Kathmandu / Feb 2: National Strategy is being prepared for promotion and export of tea.

It will be prepared with an integrated effort of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply and National Tea and Coffee Development Board.

The strategy will focus on the production and promotion of tea in the international market.

Executive director of National Tea and Coffee Development Board Bishnu Prasad Bhattrai informed that the strategy will help promotion of tea in international market and earn foreign currency.

The Board viewed that though there is a huge demand of tea in internal market and supply is not being met due to the limited capacity of production.

The strategy will outline to enhance investment, production and export tea in the next five years.

Tea is listed as a comparative advantage product in National trade integrated strategy.

Nepal exports tea to the United States, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, South Africa and Spain.
