Nepal to export grass to Tibet
Kathmandu / April 30: The Tibet Plateau Blue Agricultural Company is going to buy oat grass and animal fodder from Nepal.
The Tibet Plateau Blue Agricultural Company inked an agreement with Nepal Crown Agriculture Enterprises and New Hope Nepal Company, to import oat grass and animal fodder from Nepal.
In the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, and Chinese Ambassador Chen Song, the agreement to export oats grass and feed was signed. The environment and soil of the Terai are considered to be favourable for the growth of oat grass.
Oat grass has got good raw fibres, which are good for the animals like yaks.
There is a large demand for oat grass in Tibet, the internal production was not able to meet the demand therefore, and the Tibetan government is importing it from Nepal.
The government of Tibet is collaborating with the farmers of Nepal to effectively improve the export the high quality oat grass and animal feed from Nepal.
He said that it is easier and cheaper for the farmers and dairy farms of Tibet to import grass from Nepal from the Tatopani checkpoint via the Kerung border of Nepal than to procure it from another region of China.
He said that the export of oat grass is kept in priority as it improves earning and employment opportunities.
The Chinese foreign minister had signed an agreement on a protocol of exporting oat grass from Nepal while visiting Nepal in 2021. Since then, a company in Chitwan has been exporting Haylage grass to Tibet.
