Dr Govinda KC on 22nd hunger strike

Kathmandu / May 11: Dr Govinda KC on Saturday began his 22nd fast-unto-death demanding implementation of the agreements reached with the government in the past.

The health crusader started his hunger strike on the premises of Pashupatinath Temple at Mrigasthali stating that the government had failed to address the agreements signed, even after the expiration of the deadline.

Ensuring the completion of transitional justice, reforming the medical and education sector, quality and free medical treatment for all, the establishment of an organisation to ensure equal access for all in Geta, a settlement in Attariya Municipality of Kailali District, and punishing those found guilty by the Karki committee are among the unfulfilled demands.

Dr KC has been championing radical reforms in medical education and health services since his first protest in July 2012.

The administration has introduced some reform measures in the medical education sector based on the agreements reached with KC. But several agreements reached between the government representatives and the doctor are yet to be implemented.
