RPP issues 24-hour ultimatum for release of Mishra and Rana; Home Minister assures action against perpetrators; KMC imposes fine on former King

Kathmandu / March 29: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has demanded a thorough investigation into the incidents that occurred during the royalist protests in the capital on Friday.

A Central Executive Committee meeting of the party held at the party’s office in Dhumbarahi called for the establishment of an independent judicial commission to probe the events at Tinkune.

RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden informed that the meeting issued a 24-hour ultimatum for the unconditional release of Vice Chairman Rabindra Mishra and General Secretary Dhawal SJB Rana.

He further emphasized that if the leaders are not released, the party will organize protests nationwide and escalate the issue into a full-scale movement.

The meeting concluded that the incidents during the royalist protests were a direct result of the government’s actions. Chairman Lingden criticized the government’s strategy, accusing it of mobilizing forces with the intention to suppress the protest and provoke violence.

Lingden also pointed out that the escalation began when tear gas shells were deliberately lobbed at a peaceful gathering, leading to the violent outcome.

KMC imposes Rs 793,000 fine on former King Shah

Meanwhile, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has imposed a fine of Rs 793,000 on former King Gyanendra Shah for pollution, and public and private property vandalized among other various titles during Friday’s royalists’ demonstration in Tinkune.

KMC issued a press release on Saturday informing about the fine to former King Shah under the activities title during Friday’s royalists’ demonstration.

KMC imposed fines of Rs, 100,000 each for pollution in Tinkune among six places, Rs. 130,000 for vandalizing fire brigades and Rs 63,000 for vandalizing railing, plants, trees and traffic iland at Tinkune during the demonstration.

Home Minister assures action against perpetrators

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak on Saturday inspected different areas including Tinkune and Koteshwor where supporters of the former king vandalized and torched various physical structures.

A team comprising Home Minister Lekhak, Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, high-ranking officials of the Home Ministry and police officers carried out the inspection of the torched private house at Tinkune, Kantipur Television, Annapurna Post Daily, Judibuti-based Herbs Production and Processing Company Limited, party office of CPN (Unified Socialist) and CPN (Maoist Centre) and Koteshwor-based sales store.

In the course of the monitoring, Home Minister Lekhak said the attack on the media house was condemnable and those involved in such inhumane activities would be brought to book. Condemning the attempt to destroy the media, he committed to taking action against the perpetrators.

He mentioned, “In a democratic republic, there will be mutual competition. There are the government side and the opposition side as per the people’s mandate. But it should be countered by being united when anyone orchestrates anarchic activities against the system.” RSS
