TIA comes into operation for 18 hours from today

Kathmandu / April 1: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has come into operation for 18 hours from today.

Earlier, the airport reduced the operation hours to 10 hours for five months for the runway upgrading works. With the revised schedule, the airport is to remain open from 6:00 am to 12:00 midnight, TIA General Manager Jagannath Niraula said.

As he said, works to construct a link way from the Taxiway to the runway have been completed. However, the constructions of a parallel taxiway are underway.

Under the Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project under the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, constructions of South-West Parallel Taxi Way, the International Apron towards the northeast and the Hangar Apron towards the east are going on.

It is estimated to cost around Rs 15 billion to complete the project that has so far reported 90 percent progress.

However, it is expected to take one and half year more to complete the entire project works. RSS
