NRNA international conference from October 14

NRNA-image-300x225Kathmandu / October 13: The 7th International General Assembly and Global Conference of the Non Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) is going to be held in the capital from October 14 to 17.

All preparations for the event are over, the NRNA said in a press meet here Monday. The election session for the Association new working committee is scheduled to take place at Army Officers’ Club.

The International Conference will be inaugurated by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at Hotel Soaltee on October 16. A total of 1,500 representatives including observers are expected to participate in the conference to be held with the theme of “Non Resident Nepali Association, True Partner of Reconstruction”.

NRNA incumbent president Shesh Ghale said the community-based reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of the April earthquake was the focus of the Association.

He further said the provision of providing citizenships to NRNs incorporated in the new constitution was a great achievement for them. Of late, investment in hydropower and tourism is the concerns of NRNA.

NRNA President Ghale pledged to turn the association into a development partner of Nepal like the UNDP in the next 15 years at the most.

He said the association working in the social sector could also start commercial ventures in view of which the association had been investing in hydro power projects and hotels among other sectors.

Ghale termed the provision guaranteeing citizenship to a NRN in Nepal Constitution 2072 as a big achievement and added that it had created an environment conducive to investment.

NRNA has shown interest in investing in hydro power and tourism sectors among others. It has already started some projects as including the hydro power project in Lumjung and a five start hotel in the capital city.

Aspirants for NRNA leadership

Incumbent NRNA President Shesh Ghale, Vice President TB Karki and former general secretary Ratan Jha have filed candidacy for NRNA leadership, said NRNA Spokesperson Man KC.

The NRNA has more than 100 working committee including the international working committee including a President, two Vice Presidents, General Secretary, Secretary and Treasurer. NRNA conference will seen an investment of Rs 10 million. The NRNA with branches spread across 71 countries has around 40,000 registered members. RSS
