Election for Speaker, Deputy Speaker on Friday; Nemwang calls to reconsider protests

NemwangKathmandu / October 14: The Legislature-Parliament is to hold the election for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker on coming Friday after the consensus among political parties eluded.

Chairing the Parliament meeting on Wednesday, senior most parliamentarian Laxman Rajbansi informed the parliament about it and directed the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat for necessary arrangement on the same.

However, the political parties have been given the deadline of Thursday 3:00 pm to forge consensus on the posts. And, if they fail, the election for Speaker is scheduled for Friday 3:00 pm and for Deputy Speaker on Friday 5:00 pm.

To pave way for the election of the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the existing Speaker Subas Nembang and Deputy Speaker Onsari Gharti resigned from the post on Wednesday.

The parliament Chair Rajbansi read out the resignation letters of the outgoing Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Earlier, he read out a letter received from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Minister on the recent formation of government under the leadership of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Meanwhile, the outgoing Speaker of the Legislature-Parliament Subash Nembang has urged the agitating political parties to reconsider protest programmes in view of the big festivals as Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.

Addressing a programme organized to inform his resignation from the post of Speaker, Nembang said, “Please let people celebrate festivals happily. I humbly request the agitating political parties for this.” However, he did not mention the name of any agitating political party.

As per the constitution, Speaker Nembang and Deputy Speaker Onsari Gharti tendered resignation from the posts. Nembang further said the politics of consensus and cooperation seen during the promulgation of the constitution should be continued in the days ahead so as to institutionalize the achievements as federalism and republic.

He argued that the constitution Nepalis have this time is the best one compared to the past ones. RSS
