Country’s first village theatre inaugurated

TheatreMorang / April 14: Arguably the first village theatre of its kind in the country has been built at Jhorahat in Morang district.

The theatre was inaugurated amidst a function on Wednesday. A wooden plough, also probably the biggest in the world, has been displayed at the theatre. This plough was made from a single Simal tree. It is 15 feet long and the yoke is also more than 10 feet long. As many as nine people are needed to lift the plough.

The plough has been placed at the entrance to the Jhorahat theatre. The handle of the plough which is painted black is also long.

Senior artiste Harihar Sharma, Prof Dr Abhi Subedi, founder of the Aarohan Gurukul and dramatist and drama director Sunil Pokharel and US citizen Barus Pardol jointly inaugurated the village theatre and the drama centre.

The theatre was constructed at a cost of Rs 2.2 million and it has a seating capacity of 120, shared Bharat Guragain, president of the Jhorahat Drama Troupe. RSS
