NCC presses for private sector’s share of fuel trade

Nepal Chamber of CommerceKathmandu / July 25: The Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has expressed its disappointment over the government’s decision to scrap the Petroleum and Gas Transaction (Regulatory) Orders-2069 depriving the private sector of a share in importing and supplying fuel products.

NCC issued a statement claiming the cabinet decision to terminate the regulation and thereby deprive the private sector from supplying fuel products has resulted in the government’s retention of its monopoly, and that too at a time when private companies had already been selected for importing the product.

The Chamber has called for upholding the government’s earlier decision to allow the private sector to import fuel products with an insistence that it would increase the storage capacity while simultaneously easing and facilitating its supply.

It would also provide relief to the general consumers in the backdrop of competitive market pricing and reduce financial burden on the government, NCC said. RSS
