Monsoon-triggered landslides wreak havoc in Parbat

Jure LandslideParbat / July 26: Four families have been displaced by monsoon-triggered landslides at Majhaphant VDC of northern Parbat while 27 houses are at high risk of being buried.

The mudslides taking place near the border of Lepre and Kuwapani VDCs since the past one week have so far displaced four families of Majhphant-9. The displaced families have moved to a safer place and are living in open with the dire need of assistance. So far none is in the site for their help.

Likewise, 20 families of Banskharha VDC-9 in the district are living under the constant fear of being buried as long and deep fissures are seen in the earth above the village.

Parbat’s Assistant Chief District Officer Prabin Dhakal said the families facing a risk of landslide are requested to move to safer places.

District Soil Conservation Office’s technician Prakash Basnet said the office was not in the position of taking immediate measures to control landslides as deep cracks have appeared in the hill above the village. A large swath of land beneath is at high risk of being hit by landslides, he said.

The District Administration Office Parbat said it was effortful to reach to the affected with immediate relief assistance materials that include tents and foodstuffs.

Parents, child killed in Makwanpur landslide
Meanwhile, three persons of a same family were killed in a landslide occurred at Sola Bhanjyang of Bhimfedi-5 in Makwanpur last night.

Tek Bahadur Rumba Lama, 25, his spouse Parbati, 23, and their five-year-old son Bikash were buried to death by last night’s landslide, according to the District Police Office, Makwanpur.

Further details of losses are awaited, said Police Inspector Basudev Thapa of Bhimfedi Area Police Office. Security personnel are already in the site for rescue efforts.

Search on for three go missing in flooded Kamala River

In another incident, Police are searching for three youths gone missing in the flooded Kamala River since Sunday evening.

Four people including Manoj Yogi,21 of Bardibas, Mahottari were swept away by the flooded river while on the way to Uttarayani of Siraha to observe the religious festival there. However, the dead body of Yogi was recovered from the river floodwater on Monday evening.

They all went missing in the river near from Chispani of Dhanusa in course of crossing it. RSS
