Five-fold more inmates in Panchthar jail

Panchthar / Aug 16: The Panchthar Prison –which was said to be transformed into a correction centre – has witnessed five-fold more inmates than its capacity.

With this, the jailbirds have been surviving a hard time in the prison. The jailbirds complained that they are having a very congested accommodation in the prison due to space limitation and overcrowd of inmates.

Currently 129 jailbirds are being accommodated in the Panchthar Prison which has the ideal capacity to keep only 25 including five female inmates, informed Jailer Surendra Bahadur Mukhiya.

He said that the over-crowd of inmates is creating trouble to accommodate them in a convenient manner. They are facing discomfort while using toilet and during sleep time, shared security guard of the jail, Teknath Rijal, “The inmates are compelled to have sleep in a pathetic situation on rotation basis”.
