CJ Karki directs to settle VAW cases within three months

CJ KarkiPokhara / Dec 17: Chief Justice (CJ) Sushila Karki has directed the district judges to dispense justice on cases related to Violence against Women within three months.

Chief Justice Karki said this while inaugurating a daylong talk programme ‘Women’s Access to Justice and Coordination among Stakeholders’ organized by the Supreme Court here on Saturday.

She instructed the judges to deliver justice to helpless and backward people effectively so as to gain public confidence towards judiciary.

“Women’s easy access to justice has been challenged because of information gaps on women rights and judicial services, inability to manage expenses, complicated procedure, unclear legal provision and inadequate service recipient friendly environment,” she added.

The law practitioners have very important role in the implementation of the court-settled cases, Karki said, stressing the need of the system to immediately deliver justice to the victims and punish the perpetrators.

The Chief Justice admitted that the justice is not being dispensed in an effective and efficient manner. “It is imperative to enhance the capacity of service providers to deliver service and service recipients to consume the service,” the Chief Justice insisted.

SC Justice Sapana Malla Pradhan said women’s access to justice has yet to be enhanced claiming that the mind-sets and values are still same on doing justice to women.

Chief Judge of High Court Pokhara Purushottam Bhandari presided over the programme. RSS
