Stolen idols recovered from Jumla

Jumla / Jan 3: A dozen idols of various gods and goddesses that were reportedly stolen from Jumla-based Chandannath Temple on November 26, have been recovered from the bank of a local river, police said.

The statues recovered from Dhungri river bank today morning include those of Hindu gods Bishnu, Ganesha and Balgopal made from bronze, two statues, small and big, of Lord Buddha, a statue featuring Buddha meditating, a statue showcasing gods Krishna and Balgopal jointly holding a flute, a statue of Hanuman made from iron and two statues of goddess Bhagawati made from bronze and copper, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Guru Bishnu Kafle.

Likewise, a right conch, a left conch and three pieces of Rudrakshya were also recovered. Earlier, the total 21 statues of different gods and goddesses were stolen from the temple, police said.

“We acting on a tip off recovered the statues. The site where the statues were found is one and a half hours walk from the district headquarters,” said Kafle. Chief District Officer Rudra Prasad Pandit said the investigation into the stealing of statues was going on, based on the recovery of the stolen statues. RSS
