National Library in mess

libraryLalitpur / Jan 4: The 150 thousand books with the Nepal National Library at Harihar Bhawan are stuffed in gunny sacks following the building housing the library collapsed due to the earthquake in April 2015.

Although the National Reconstruction Authority has set aside fund for constructing a new library building, construction of the building has not yet started due to lack of a plot for the construction.

Chief librarian Upendra Prasad Mainali said the library has not been able to provide any service at present. He added that the reconstruction works have not started at all now and it might take two or three years even if it starts.

Mainali demanded that the library should be resumed even by making alternative arrangements.

Publication chief at the library, Yadav Chandra Niraula said the books and collection at the library have been kept in 5,000 sacks after the earthquake and only 3,000 of them have been opened.

The library was established 60 years back and it books and other collections dating back 300 years. RSS
