Rs 2.43 billion pledged for investment in hydropower projects

hydropowerKathmandu / Jan 21: A campaign of Ministry of Finance calling for commitments for investment in hydropower projects has received an overwhelming response.

The call for online application through the portal http://www.moenonline.moen.gov.np/login was announced on January 9. Launching the portal, Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma had appealed for investment commitments in hydropower.

Till now, commitments of Rs 2.43 billion have been made, according to the Ministry. The commitments were made by 24,249 individuals and 27 companies.

Minister Sharma came up with an investment drive in hydropower under the slogan ‘Nepal’s water and people’s investment’. The minister had said that he came up with the idea after finding genuine interest among members of the public as well as migrant workers in Malaysia and the Middle East to invest in hydropower.
