Lack of construction details of over 1200 bridges affects repair

Overhead bridgeKathmandu / Jan 11: Lack of construction details of more than 1,200 bridges across the country constructed by various foreign countries has affected repair, said the Bridge Division under the Department of Roads.

For instance, lack of construction details of a bridge along Hetauda-Dhalkebar-Pathalaiya road constructed with financial help of former USSR has affected repair, said senior divisional engineer at the Division Naresh Man Shakya.

“This has generated confusion over what technology was used and the composition of materials used to build the bridge,” he said, adding that repair was going on prioritising unsafe bridges.

There are 60 bridges along the road alone which need repair, but lack their construction details, he said.

Likewise, a bridge along Aamalekhgunj-Dudhaura has also faced similar fate for lack of its construction details. “We are searching for ways to repair the bridge,” said Shakya. RSS
