Nepal-based NGO bags two international awards

Kathmandu / Feb 25 : Karuna Foundation, a Nepal-based NGO, has bagged two international awards for its ongoing programme on disability implemented in a district of Nepal. The Inspire2Care model, formerly piloted in Sunsari and Rasuwa (2011-2015) and currently being run in Ilam for last three years was lauded as top 10 ‘Most Scalable Solutions’ from among the 400 entries for the award.

Karuna was awarded amidst a function in United Nations office in Vienna where officials discussed on the successful model that has already benefited over 5,000 people. During the Zero Project Conference, from 21 till 23 February in Vienna, ample attention was given to the innovative approach of Karuna Foundation. The Deputy Chief of the Mission from Nepal, Amber Bahadur Karki had also participated in the event.

Karuna was awarded as the 10 most scalable solutions while it was also selected as Innovative Practice on accessibility.

The award was announced by Zero Project and Ashoka Foundation that actively explore programmes that are effective and scalable for a world without barriers.

According to Karuna, Inspire2Care model aims at full participation in society of children and adults with a disability in developing countries and a reduction of avoidable birth defects and childhood disabilities.
