My work is like an open book: Prez Bhandari; NC’s Laxmi Rai files candidacy for presidential election

President VisitKathmandu / Mar 7: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that her work is like an open book that everyone can see.

Speaking to media persons after filing her nomination papers for the election to the post of President, President Bhandari said that she has working on the basis of constitution and law.

“I think that I have tried my best to work according to the spirit of constitution,” she said, adding, “I have worked in line with constitution and law.”

Nepali Congress has been accusing President Bhandari of refusing to endorse the names of three persons—Gopal Basnet, Krishna Pasad Paudel and Chandani Joshi—recommended by the erstwhile NC-led government to the National Assembly.

She, however, endorsed the names of Yuvaraj Khatiwada, Ram Narayan Bidari and Bimala Khatiwada on the very day they were recommended by KP Sharma Oli-led government, while putting on hold the names of three persons recommended by the Deuba-led government for two weeks.

The Central Working Committee and Parliamentary Party of the NC had also lashed out at President Bhandari arguing that she took the decision against the spirit of constitution.

Meanwhile, speaking to media persons after filing her nominations, UML leader Subash Nemabang said that the party decided to filed Bhandari again for the president’s post because she successfully completed her tenure as the first women President of Nepal.

NC’s Laxmi Rai files candidacy for presidential election

Likewise, Nepali Congress’s Laxmi Rai has filed her candidacy as for the presidential election scheduled for March 13.

The party’s Central Working Committee meeting on Wednesday morning picked Rai, a former lawmaker and former central member, as its presidential candidate to contest against UML’s Bidhya Devi Bhandari.

NC had earlier said it would not contest in presidential election if the left alliance fielded anyone except incumbent President Bidhya Bhandari. However, after UML decided to continue with Bhandari as its candidate, NC fielded one of their own.

The party was dissatisfied with President Bhandari after she withheld the National Assembly member nominations forwarded by the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government.
