US-Bangla plane crash: 49 confirmed dead; 33 Nepalis ob board

Biman Bangladesh_AccidentKatmandu / Mar 12: Forty-nine people lost their lives as a plane carrying 71 people crashed on landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport today at 2:18 pm.

According to Spokesperson of the Nepal Police, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Manoj Neupaney, 49 people were killed in the crash while 22 people are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the capital city. Out of the 49 casualties, 22 are Nepali nationals, four crew members and 23 other nationals.

There were 71 people on board including four crew-members in the US Bangla Airlines, Flight BS 211, flying from Dhaka to Kathmandu.

Of the deceased, 31 bodies were recovered from the charred wreckage while 18 were pronounced dead in the hospitals.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed his condolences to the families of those that have lost their lives in the incident and wished speedy recovery for the survivors under treatment.

The Prime Minister, Defense Minister, Home Minister, Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Paudel, and the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal had reached the incident site to take stock of the unfortunate event.

PM Oli also stated through a tweet that the government will investigate the incident immediately.
