Discussions begin for reconstruction of Dharahara

DharaharaKathmandu / Mar 16:National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has initiated consultations with the concerned bodies for pursuing reconstruction of the historic Dharahara, which was destroyed by the earthquake of April 25, 2015.

NRA has started discussions on the reconstruction of the iconic monument after Nepal Telecom backed off from its earlier commitment to reconstruct it.

A meeting was held in this connection on Thursday that was chaired by Chief Executive Officer of NRA Yubaraj Bhusal.

On the occasion, CEO Bhusal stressed on starting the reconstruction of Dharahara at the earliest by completing all technical preparations that are required to be carried out prior to the actual construction work.

NRA spokesperson Yamlal Bhusal said discussions were going on regarding technical aspects of construction, including the design. In this connection, he added, the reconstruction of Dharahara would begin after the technicalities were finalised.

Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister Mahendra Man Gurung, NRA Secretary Madhusudan Adhikari, Executive Members Dr Hariram Parajuli, Dr Chandra Bahadur Shrestha, Dhruba Prasad Sharma, Bishnu Bhandari, Chief of the Central Project Implementation Unit of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Dundu Raj Ghimire, and Director General of the Department of Archaeology Bhesh Narayan Dahal, among other members of the expert group, were present at the meeting.
