Tatopani border to reopen in May

Kathmandu, June 15/ Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali today said the Nepal-China border point of Tatopani, which has been closed since the 2015 earthquakes, would reopen in May 2019. However, only cargo movement will be allowed through the border point.
The Cabinet has already approved the Chinese government’s proposal to build two bridges — one that connects Rasuwagadi and Kerung and the other at the Tatopani border point in Sindhupalchowk — with full Chinese financial and technical support.

An agreement will be signed in this regard during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to China beginning June 19. Minister Gyawali said the Chinese side would hand over the bridge in May next year, but the border point’s resumption would depend on when Nepal would complete road construction on the Nepali side. “They will hand over the bridge in May, and only cargo movement will take place,” he said.
