Senior Neurosurgeon Devkota cremated

Upendra Final RitesKathmandu / June 19: Funeral rites for Senior Neurosurgeon Dr Upendra Devkota have been performed at the Pashupati Aryaghat on Tuesday.

He was cremated through electric crematorium on the premises of the Pashupati Aryaghat. Devkota’s wife Dr Madhu Devkota and his daughters Medha, Basudha and Manjari paid last tributes to him amid the presence of friends, relatives and well-wishers before being taken to the cremation machine.

His body had been kept on the premises of Neuro Hospital, Bansbari for condolence until 1 pm today. Thousands of people from general to dignitaries, relatives, friends and well-wishers gathered at the hospital to pay their last tributes to Devkota.

Devkota breathed his last at 5:35 pm yesterday while undergoing treatment for bile duct cancer at Babsbari-based Neuro hospital.

His post cremation rituals will be performed within seven days, according to the press release issued by the hospital.

Devkota had returned home in the third week of April to spend the rest of his life after his treatment was not possible in Britain. He had gone to Britain on November 21.

When he underwent biopsy and ultrasound tests at King’s College Hospital he was diagnosed with bile duct cancer (Kolingeo carcinoma).
