Lower House passes two bills; Five bills related to fundamental rights presented

Kathmandu / Sept 13: The meeting of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament, has passed two bills today.

The House unanimously approved the Bill on the Rights of People with Disabilities (First Amendment), 2075 and the Environment Conservation (First Amendment) Bill 2075, presented by Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Thama Maya Thapa, and by Minister for Forests and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet, respectively.

Lawmakers Prem Suwal, Sanjaya Gautam, Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bharat Kumar Saha had taken part in the discussions on the principles of the bills.

Responding to the queries by lawmakers, Minister Thapa explained that the bill has been brought to further empowering the people with disabilities and rendering the works f the local level regarding the disabled persons more responsible.

Minister for Forests and Environment Basnet, responding to lawmakers’ queries regarding the environment conservation bill, said the government would take all the measures required for effective conservation of the environment.

He said the bill has been brought with the objective of ensuring the fundamental right of the citizens to live in a clean environment.

Stating the environment was deteriorating due mainly to the increasing temperature, the Minister for Forests and Environment underlined the need for collaborative efforts at the global level for reducing the impact of global warming.

Lawmakers Gagan Thapa, Sanjaya Gautam, Prem Suwal among others charged the government of not giving the required attention to environment conservation and the present bill also fell short of that.

The House of Representatives next meets at 11 am on September 14.

Five bills related to fundamental rights presented

Meanwhile, reports on different five bills providing for fundamental rights have been presented in today’s meeting of House of Representatives (HoR).

The reports presented are— the report on the Bill Related to Consumer Rights Protection -2075′ and the report on the Bill related to Employment Rights-2075. These reports were presented by the Industry, Commerce and Labour and Consumers Welfare Committee.

Similarly, the report on Bill Related to Residential Rights-2075 presented by the Development and Technology Committee, the report on Bill Related to Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights and the report related to the Bill Concerning Public Health-2075 presented by the Education and Health Committee were also tabled in the meeting.
