Kathmandu / Apr 6: The Traffic Police is all set to act against the encroachment on road pavements inside Kathmandu Valley.
The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division is intervening to prevent pavement encroachment under the recently implemented ‘traffic management and pollution control improvement action plan-2075’.
In collaboration with several bodies/organisations, footpath shops and parking lots along Old Baneshwor–Sinagmangal, Pingalasthan-Gaushala Chowk, New Baneshwor-Old Baneshwor, around Koteshwor, Tripureshwor-Kalanki, Chabahil-Jorpati, and Thapathali-Lagankhel routes will be removed.
According to the Division’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Basanta Kumar Panta, the campaign which has been in force since April 4 aims to make the traffic system efficient and well-managed.
General Secretary of National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, Saroj Sitaula, is of the belief that implementation of preventive measures against footpath encroachment would obviously contribute to improvement in the traffic system, reducing the continuous problem of traffic jam in the Valley.
Pollution control, opening of corridor roads, special management of zebra-crossing and lane system, construction of overhead bridges, and managing traffic volunteers have been the focused aspects of the action plan.
According to statistics of the Department of Transport Management, currently, over 3.2 million vehicles ply across the country and of them, about 1.1 million are based in the Valley. RSS
