COVID-19 update: 78 new cases, 82 recoveries and one fatality in 24 hours

Kathmandu / Feb. 28: The Ministry of Health and Population on Sunday confirmed 78 new cases of COVID-19, taking the nation’s novel coronavirus tally to 274,143.

“In 2,532 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the last 24 hours, 78 persons were found infected with SARS-CoV-2,” informed Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population in the regular press briefing.

Of the 78 new infections, 37 were recorded in the Kathmandu Valley including six in Bhaktapur, five in Lalitpur and 26 in Kathmandu.

Currently, there are 965 active cases of COVID-19 of which, 517 are admitted to the institutional isolation while the remaining are placed in home isolation. Likewise, a total of 68 people, mostly those who had returned from abroad are placed in quarantine across the nation.

Of the active patients, 32 are admitted to the ICU and eight are receiving treatment with ventilator facility.

Meanwhile, 82 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in institutional isolation or staying in home isolation recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now recorded 270,407 cases of recovery and the recovery rate is at 98.6 percent.

Moreover, one fatality related to COVID-19 was confirmed in Nepal in the last 24 hours. The COVID-19 death toll is 2,774.
