Family of migrants to be incorporated in insurance scheme

Kathmandu / Jan 21: The government has started a process to incorporate the family members of the Nepali migrant workers into the health insurance policy.

The Health Insurance Board started the process in this regard with the objective of taking the family members of the Nepali migrant workers to access easy and smooth health services. The Board has approved the ‘Procedure to incorporate the family members of the Nepali migrant workers to health insurance policy-2078’ as mentioned by the Health Insurance Act-2074 BS.

Information Officer of the Board, Shovit Rijal, said that the Board has been holding discussions with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security to implement the provision mentioned in the Act.

He added the provision would be brought into implementation once the Labour Ministry approves it.

With the approval of the procedure, every person aspiring to go for foreign employment has to submit the updated identity card of the family members while acquiring his/her labour permit.

The Board coordinating with the Department of Foreign Employment has to make arrangements of incorporating the family members of the Nepali migrant workers while providing labour permit for the same.

It is mentioned in the procedure that Nepali migrant workers have to renew the health insurance policy of the family members before one month of expiry of the policy. The Board writing a letter to its all province offices and District offices directed to lend necessary support, facilitate, and coordinate to incorporate the family members of Nepali migrant workers.
