Silence period of local poll from Tuesday midnight; holiday on poll day
Kathmandu / May 9: The silence period of the local level election will start from Tuesday midnight.
Speaking at a press meet on Monday, Shaligram Sharma Paudel, spokesperson of the Election Commission (EC), Nepal, said that the silence period would start from 12 at night on Tuesday, May 10.
The voting for local level government is slated for May 13.
“As the silence period is starting from tomorrow midnight, the EC urges all the candidates and their fans to remove sponsor posts and the other posts that are against the election code of conduct from the social networking sites, and also not to post any new items in this regard,” said the EC spokesperson.
He said Nepal Telecommunication Authority has been directed to monitor such posts.
The EC has also banned the use and sale of alcoholic liquors from Tuesday midnight till the voting is over in the places as specified in the election code of conduct.
Govt. declares holiday on Friday for local poll
The government has decided to grant a public holiday on Friday, May 13, the day of the local level election.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Sunday took a decision to this effect.
Issuing a press release on Monday, Home Ministry spokesperson Phanindra Mani Pokhrel said that all government offices and public agencies in the country were given a public holiday for Friday, May 13, the day of voting for the local poll.
