Minister Bhusal for mobilizing NEA’s profit for infrastructures
Kathmandu / Aug. 17: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal said that the profits earned by Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) will be invested in the construction of infrastructures related to electricity supply.
Speaking at the 37th Anniversary Program of NEA organized on Wednesday, Minister Bhusal rejected the demand of NEA employees to provide them bonus from the profits made by NEA in the last fiscal year. In 2021/22, the NEA earned profits of Rs 16.16 billion, which was more than double of the amount that the public utility earned in 2020/21.
The notable rise in the profit has been attributed to an increase in electricity production and consumption, rise in electricity export to India, reduction in electricity leakage and effective control of operating expenses.
NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising said the NEA earned more than Rs 2 billion by just reducing the electricity leakage. According to him, NEA’s subsidiary Nepal Power Trading will be starting electricity trade in domestic and international markets from the current fiscal year.
