Nepal’s first tunnel route built in Dolakha

Dolakha / Nov. 24: The tunnel in operation at the Kabrevir section of the Singati-Lamabagar road in Bigu Rural Municipality-1 of Dolakha district has become the first tunnel route in Nepal.

This underground route was built at a cost of Rs. 110 million from the budget of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectricity Project after the surface road was severely damaged by the earthquake of 2015.

The quake and the subsequent aftershocks made it impossible to build a road for the project then, said Mitramani Pokharel, head of administration of the project.

According to him, the length of the underground passage of Kabrevir, as the access road of the project, is 337 meters.

It is six metres in height and 5.5 metres in width.

After the construction of this underground route, landslides have been minimised here and traffic is also being operated without any obstruction.
