Swearing-in of oldest HoR member tomorrow, others on Thursday
Kathmandu / Dec. 20: President Bidya Devi Bhandari is administering the oath of office to Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana, 80, as by age the senior-most member of the House of Representatives (HoR) tomorrow, Wednesday.
The secretariat of the federal parliament on Monday sent Rana’s name to the office of the President for administering the oath to him as the oldest member of the HoR on the basis of birth date mentioned in the citizenship certificate.
“The federal parliament secretariat yesterday recommended name of the oldest HoR member, and the swearing-in is taking place at 1 pm tomorrow (Wednesday),” informed Dr. Bhesh Raj Adhikari, personal secretary of the President, on Monday.
He said the swearing-in ceremony will be a brief one and the dignitaries to be invited are being finalized.
The oldest HoR member will have to run the proceedings of the HoR until the Speaker and deputy Speakers are elected.
Meanwhile, the swearing of the other HoR members will take place at 1 pm on Thursday, December 22, at the International Convention Center, according to an urgent notice issued by general secretary of federal parliament Dr. Bharat Raj Gautam.
HoR members taking part in the swearing-in are urged to come up with the copy of the certificate of election, Nepali citizenship certificate and two copies of one’s passport size photographs. They are also urged to be in either national dress or one’s own cultural attire, and those willing to take the oath in their own mother tongue are urged to get the oath translated.
A total of 275 HoR members, 175 through first-past-the-post and 110 through proportional representation (PR) system, has been elected by the election of the member of the House of Representatives held on November 20.
