Rabi Lamichhane acquires Nepali citizenship certificate; elected as chair of RSP
Kathmandu / Jan 29: Rabi Lamichhane has acquired his Nepali citizenship certificate today.
On Sunday, he obtained the certificate of Nepali citizenship from the District Administration Office (DAO) in Kathmandu. Lamichhane’s secretariat coordinator Deepak Bohara said that according to the order of the Supreme Court, Lamichhane’s Nepali citizenship was restored today by the DAO Kathmandu.
Although Lamichhane renounced his US citizenship, he did not get Nepali citizenship again.
The Supreme Court dismissed Rabi Lamichhane’s position as a Member of Parliament on Friday, ruling that he had not completed the legal process for reviving his Nepali citizenship after renouncing his US citizenship.
After the court’s decision, Lamichhane resigned from the post of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister on Friday. He was elected from Chitwan Constituency-2 in the election held on November 20.
RSP elects Rabi Lamichhane as chairman of the party again
Meanwhile, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has elected Rabi Lamichhane as the party chairman today.
As Lamichhane acquired his Nepali citizenship today, he was elected as the party chairman again.
After the Supreme Court’s order on January 27, Lamichhane lost his post of MP along with the post of party chairman.
