PM Prachanda stresses Nepali workers’ welfare in Malaysia
Kathmandu / Feb 3: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stressed the interest, security and welfare of the Nepali migrant workers in Malaysia.
Prime Minister Prachanda raised the issue of the welfare of the Nepali workers in Malaysia during his meeting with the visiting Malaysian Home Minister, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, at his office in Singh Durbar.
“I would like to thank the government of Malaysia for the environment provided to the Nepali workers there. If there are any issues to this end, I believe the government of Malaysia will make legal and institutional improvement with regard to the interest, security and welfare of the Nepali workers there,” said the Prime Minister during the meeting.
PM Prachanda appreciated the government of Malaysia for raising minimum wage from 1200 to 1500 ringgit.
According to the PM’s secretariat, the PM vowed to implement the free visa and free ticket provision more strictly so as to further effectively manage the employment sector.
PM Prachanda observed that Malaysia and Nepal could collaborate to create environment for the Malaysia-returnee Nepali migrant workers to utilize their skills and capacity in Nepal and also to enhance the same to those willing to go to Malaysia.
On his part, Malaysian Minister Ismail, said that the government of Malaysia has been serious with regard to the welfare and security of workers in Malaysia, including the foreign workers.
Minister Ismail also said that there was need of workers in five different sectors in Malaysia and assured of policy adjustment to make it easy for Nepali workers. He lauded Nepali workers as hard working and honest.
