Erring contractors penalised
Nepalgunj / May 5: In Banke, strict action has been taken against contractors who ignore local development contracts, stay out of contact for an extended period of time, and abandon projects midway.
According to authorities, legal action had reportedly been taken against those contractors who were unresponsive and had failed to complete development projects in various places in the district.
Kohalpur Municipality had started strict action by confiscating the security deposit of six construction parties who failed to complete their projects and put them on the black list. Purna Prashad Acharya informed that the meeting of the city executive had decided to blacklist the six companies if the construction work was not completed by 30 June.
Chief Acharya stated, “The executive had determined to initiate action procedure after the tendency of construction companies to sign contracts but not begin the work.”
According to Chief Administrative Officer, Tikaram Dhakal, such decision was made after various development construction works within the municipality remained incomplete due to negligence and carelessness of the construction company.
According to the municipality, it has been decided to take legal action against the construction company that was awarded the contract for the construction of the Kohalpur Ring Road, the Tribhuvan Secondary School building, the view tower in Goalpark, the Saraswati building in Ward Number 8, and road maintenance work in various wards.
Similarly, Khajura Rural Municipality had also decided to take action against construction contractors who are neglecting various construction works within the municipality.
Dambar Bahadur B.K., Chairman of Khajura Rural Municipality, informed that since more than half a dozen construction works have been stalled in the municipality for a long time, the contractors who have taken charge of those works will be punished.
