Foundation for socialism to be laid through fronts of govt, parliament: DPM Shrestha

Kaski / Aug 19: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has expressed his confidence that the foundation for socialism could be prepared through the combination of fronts of the government, the parliament and the street.

At present, the front of the government at all three levels, federal, provincial and local is the main part and the parliament is a help, he said while addressing the seventh plenary meeting of the Gandaki Province committee of the CPN (Maoist Centre). He is Maoist Centre’s senior vice chairperson.

“If we limit achievements only to the realm of political change, its legitimacy cannot reach the general public. People’s life should change through a political change.”

The main task of the government is to consolidate the national unity, safeguard the achievements so far and the constitution, make the constitution means and tool to speed up the journey of development and prosperity through economic transformation.

The incumbent government wants to conclude the remaining task of the peace process soon. “Work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons should be completed, and conflict victims need justice. The government is effortful in concluding the peace process by completing the work of the transitional justice at any cost.”

He also directed party leaders and cadres to effectively launch the three-month campaign ‘Maoist’s special transformation campaign with people’ scheduled to take place from coming September 2, in Gandaki Province. He urged the distribution of new party memberships, strengthening, the reforms and expansion of the party organisation. RSS
