Veteran singer, musician Bhakta Raj Acharya passes away

Kathmandu / Feb 26: Veteran singer and musician Bhakta Raj Acharya, popularly known as Bhajan Shiromani, died on Monday. He was 82.

Musician Hari Lamsal, a neighbour of Acharya, confirmed that Acharya passed away while being taken to Nepal Mediciti Hospital.

“I along with Swaroop (Acharya’s son) took him to the hospital after his oxygen level dropped sharply while he was resting at home. The doctors at the hospital declared him dead,” said Lamsal.

Acharya has lent his voice to around 400 songs. Some of his popular numbers include ‘Hajar Sapana Haruko’, ‘Jati Chot Dinchhau’ and ‘Mutu Jalerahechha’.

The body will be kept for final tributes on Tuesday, said Lamsal.
