Court grants permission to remand Mahara in custody for four days
Kathmandu / March 18: The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to remand former Speaker and Vice Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Krishna Bahadur Mahara in custody for four days.
District Court Judge Durga Prasad Khanal approved the request made by the police for remanding Mahara in custody for investigation.
Mahara was apprehended in Bhairahawa on Monday over allegations of his involvement in a gold smuggling case.
Previously, the Gold Smuggling Probe Commission had urged the government to initiate legal action against Mahara based on suspicions of his involvement in the gold smuggling case.
Following that the Ministry of Home Affairs issued directives on Sunday instructing police officials to pursue charges against implicated government officials in the gold smuggling case, including Mahara.
Upon arrival in the capital, he was swiftly taken to the Central Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police in Lazimpat.
