Ruling coalition unveils common minimum programme; Promises to tackle economic downturn and impunity.

Kathmandu / March 19: The ruling coalition on Tuesday made public its common minimum programme, which is considered a guideline for running a coalition government.

The programme encompasses various sectors including land management, forestry, climate adaptation and disaster management. It also addresses youth and sports, tourism, culture and social harmony, while emphasising women’s participation, empowerment, and social inclusion. Furthermore, it commits to transitional justice, sustainable peace and defending national interests through an independent foreign policy among other crucial issues.

The ‘Minimum Policy Priorities and Common Resolution’ preamble states that the coalition government is committed to instilling hope and confidence among the people by tackling prevalent issues such as economic downturn and impunity.

Similarly, it underscores the government’s focus on prioritizing sovereignty and territorial integrity and fostering robust and balanced international relations.

It emphasizes the urgency to complete outstanding tasks related to the peace process. Additionally, it commits to providing treatment, employment opportunities and rehabilitation for individuals who were affected and disabled during the conflict period. Furthermore, it highlights the necessity of fulfilling the tasks of compensation, rehabilitation, and reintegration for families impacted by the conflict.

The common minimum programme includes a commitment to ensuring the integrity of financial institutions, enhancing public infrastructure, fostering good governance alongside efficient service delivery, promoting employment, entrepreneurship and domestic production and coordinating the development of physical infrastructure.

A taskforce comprising Paudel and Bishnu Rimal from the CPN-UML, Barshaman Pun and Janardan Sharma from the CPN (Maoist Centre), Swarnim Wagle and Mukul Dhakal from Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rajendra Shrestha and Manish Suman from Janata Samjbadi Party and Pramesh Hamal and Ghanashyam Bhusal form the CPN (Unified Socialist) were involved in drafting the document.
