Oli will become Prime Minister as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution: NC

Kathmandu / July 6: The Nepali Congress (NC) has stated that the new government will be formed according to Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, even as Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal completes the process of taking a vote of confidence.

Speaking to the media after the NC Parliamentary Party (PP) meeting at the Parliament Building on Saturday, NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak said that a new government will be formed under the leadership of UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli in accordance with Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015. He also informed that the meeting decided not to give a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Dahal.

Lekhak mentioned that since the current vote of confidence proposal is under Article 100, there will be no obstacle to forming a government as per Article 76 (2) on the grounds of constitutional provision. “Politically, after the Nepali Congress and UML agreed to form a new government, more than two-thirds of the votes have been gathered against the current government,” he said.

Lekhak said that the meeting decided to review the strong and weak aspects of the constitution, address complexities that have arisen in its implementation, and revise and amend the constitution as a group. The goal is to implement federal democratic, republican governance, and inclusiveness in the constitutional amendments.

The meeting expressed determination to implement the agreement that the new government will be one of national consensus. The first phase will be led by UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, and the second phase will be led by Nepali Congress Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba.

He added, “The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML reached an agreement on July 1 to form a national consensus government. Today’s parliamentary party meeting has supported and welcomed the agreement between NC and UML to form a government of national consensus.”
