PM Oli visits storm-hit Bara, Parsa districts; Province 2 government to provide Rs 300,000 each family

Kathmandu / Apr 1: The ruling Nepal Communist Party parliamentarians will donate their one day’s salary to raise funds for the storm-affected families in Bara and Parsa, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said on Monday.

The prime minister said so during his visit to storm-hit Bara and Parsa districts today afternoon. Oli said that the government would leave no stone unturned to carry out rescue and relief efforts.

The prime minister met injured people to take the stock of their health condition during his visit to Kalaiya Hospital.

On the occasion, Chief District Officer of Bara Rajesh Podel briefed Oli on the ongoing relief and rescue operations being carried out in the aftermath of the massive storm.

Earlier today afternoon, Prime Minister Oli flew to Bara from his hometown Jhapa cancelling all pre-scheduled events for today.

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Health Minister Upendra Yadav, Urban Development Minister Mohammad Isitiyak Rai and Physical Infrastructure Minister Raghubir Mahaseth also visited the storm-hit areas to take the stock of the situation.

A team of home ministry officials led by Secretary Prem Kumar Rai reached worst-hit Pheta Rural Municipality of Bara to take the stock of the situation.

At least 27 were killed in Bara and one killed when the massive storm struck several villages leaving 300 injured.

Province 2 government to provide Rs 300,000 each family

An emergency meeting of the Province 2 government has decided to provide Rs 300,000 to the families of those killed in massive storm that struck several villages in Bara and Parsa district.

As an immediate relief support to the victims’ family, the meeting decided to provide the monetary support.

The meeting chaired by Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut decided to expedite rescue and relief operations in storm-affected areas. “We have decided to bear all expenses for the treatment of those injured in this tragedy,” the chief minister said.

The meeting has also decided to launch rehabilitation program to the storm-affected families. At least 27 were killed and over 600 injured when the massive storm devastated various parts of Bara and Parsa districts on Sunday evening.
